A couple months ago I decided I needed to spruce up my bedroom. The walls in my bedroom have been pretty bare since I moved into my house, and it hasn't bothered me one bit. Less distraction while I float off to dreamland. Its not that I haven't wanted anything in there, but rather a less is more aesthetic. My first challenge was deciding on a color scheme that went with what I already had: red, green, white and black. Not only did I have to consider color, but subject matter... Did I want people staring at me while I slept? (uhh...no.) Did I want something awesomely abstract confusing the shit out of my senses? Meh. So, I chose a happy medium: Graphic. Or rather, what I'm calling graphic. Next was quantity, and I always choose odds. 1-3-5. One was not enough, three didn't give me a lot of options for what I wanted (I wasn't about to omit certain ideas) so five it is. Its a balancing act. Odds balance better... at least in my mind.
First, I decided on a black and white color scheme. Its simple, clean and chic. Then I compiled a list of objects, patterns and things I like and hit google images HARD. I tried to think of things that would go well in a bedroom... then I arranged my faves in an order and this is what I got: dream-catcher, lucky 7, train lines, cancer constellation, zig-zag pattern. Layout is important. Good layout = good flow. You want good flow. Flow is flow. And it is importante!
Numero Uno: Obviously a dream catcher is perfect for a bedroom. I tend to have bad dreams more often than not, and my superstition for good luck charms works well with this. I had good dreams last night, so it must be working.
Numero Dos: Lucky 7... yea, this is the gambling machine 7, and its awesome. More importantly, 7 is one of my favorite numbers. Boom.
Numero Tres: The train lines. I saw something like this on Etsy and fell in love with it. So I wanted to try it, but I wanted to put all the places I'd like to visit (some I have) on there. Its a dreamy sign of wishful travel opportunities. One I hope to accomplish in full.
Numero Quatro: Zodiac. Astronomy. Two of my favorites things. I'm obsessed with my zodiac and all that it involves. I love star constellations, and I love the simplicity of mine.
Numero Cinco: Zig to the Zag. This pattern is one of my favorites. Plus, its non-subject matterness ties everything together.
The finished product:
Ahhh.... sweet slumber! |
THEN... I painted the white! |
Cheerio!
